Just in case it helps...
For those that have already the FFANY map pack installed and want to just download the additional maps currently on the Shmack RQ server in one fell swoop you should be able to get a map pack from QuakeTastic at the following URL - http://www.quaketastic.com/files/multiplayer/maps/MapPack_ShmackRQ.zip
and copy the bsp files it contains in to your quake\id1\maps folder. As with all downloads from the net please ensure that you virus check the files before using them and you use them at your own risk

Greetings fellow quakers,

In case it may be of any help to someone else, last night on the server a player raised a query regarding a custom map on Shmack called "effigy". Apparently when that map was voted on it was preventing that player from playing and was displaying a message along the lines of "incorrect version". To try and help I wanted to try and replicate the problem but unforutnately I didn't have that map. I then visited quaketastic and downloaded the Shmack map pack from https://quaketastic.com/files/multiplayer/maps/MapPack_ShmackRQ.zip, unpacked the effigy.bsp map in to c:\quake\id1\maps and reconnected without issue.

I hope this solves your problem but please let me know if you have any further difficulties.
