There's a benefit and downside to adding new maps. I will support both. A Quake server is like 100 times better when it has a bunch of custom maps to play. However, this would require everyone to download each individual map. That could be easy if say runequake ran off the dread map pack. Then you'd only have to download one zip file and you're good. Plus lots of people would already have that map pack.

My thoughts: perhaps host two runequake servers. Port 26000 with standard id map rotation and Port 26004 for custom maps.

I ran a custom maps server for the longest time on port 26001 and at best it got a few players a month. Do you think the demand is higher now?

Not being a hardcore rune quake player I can't really give a valid opinion but I would enjoy playing custom maps in runequake. But then again, why not play as beatdown alley then? Those bda servers are usually empty with little traffic that I notice. So I guess the answer is no there isn't really a huge demand. This is just my opinion.

there's always bda.essentrix.net if you want an alternative, but you have to bring a friend usually. i still play it a few times a week.

maps can be found at http://bda.essentrix.net
