Note:

Many people have Quake from Ultimate Quake. Ultimate Quake has Quake, Quake II and Quake III. Ultimate Quake installs to c:\program files\quake, not c:\quake ... therefore, this install problem will likely exist for a good number of people. Furthermore, some of the later standalone Quake 1 CD's install to c:\program files\quake as well.

Note 2: I had long hesistated to do the DeadZone installation because I thought it might overwrite my existing pak files and render me unable to play on other servers.

Despite that this is not true, it should be made very clear on the DeadZone page that it will not do this. If you hear that it requires the download of a pak file, it is natural that some people will make this assumption and not do it.

Note 3: While the setup.exe is a nice feature, another reason why I hesistated to download it was ... I didn't know what it was going to do. The setup.exe should be offered as a convenience, yet an alternative ZIP file should be offered to allay this fear.

One of my primary fears is that some file or such in my Quake directory will be overwritten without my consent, even though this file does not do that, there is no documentation stating exactly what the setup.exe will do to my Quake files. If that were indicated on the site (what gets installed), I wouldn't have hesistated.

Recommendations:

Two small sentences:

1) Setup.exe DOES NOT overwrite any of your existing Quake files. It installs to it's own directory within Quake. Have no fears -- there is a 0% chance of any of your Quake files getting overwritten.

2) List of files installed: Setup installs 2 files to the quake\deadzone folder on your PC. It installs a special file with player models and a shortcut to play at our server. Nothing else.
