Therefore I can post this!

My favorite is Debian but I'm currently using Fedora Core 4. Causing some problems with my Intel Chip though... It also installed a GRUB boot loader which I don't know how I'm going to get rid of :shock:

If there's a distro I just want to play around with, it's either Ubuntu or Debian. But if it's for business, it's Red Hat or CentOs :lol:

I've always used RedHat/Fedora. RedHat AS runs on a lot of our production servers a few run Fedora but I mostly use Fedora for smaller stuff since I don't have RedHat backing me up if something screws up. :)

Gentoo is a nice distro, I like the install options where you can compile everything from scratch.

I've used several Linux distros, Solaris, *BSD, and others.

They do but at a price :roll: Hence I mentioned CentOs. CentOs is basically a complete ripoff RedHat :lol: Taking all the source code and replacing the logos with theirs.

I've been using RedHat for years now but I don't know if it is my favorite. I'm still running 7.3 on all my computers but its not in stock form. Newer versions were getting bloated and I'm a minimalist when it comes to my computer, must be light and fast especially for games. I've upgraded almost everything from source, 2.6 kernel, GTK 2.8, Firefox, XFCE desktop. Of course now my system is getting weighed down with development libs so I'm going to have to experiment with a new distro soon. Gonna try CentOs on my server at least. But first I gotta put Linux on my iPod:) I'll probably keep upgrading my game machine till it breaks because it would take forever to reinstall all the games.

One's favorite linux distro is (IMO) usually related to what was most stable when the g33k undertook his dive into the linux world.

Having said that, I'm an ubuntu freak. I spend more time in front of ubuntu than WIndows now. I only use WIndows for Xnews, because of the way you can browse binary posts.

I don't suppose anyone knows of a Linux Xnews killer?

Well, I'm now an Ubuntu user. Fedora's packaging system was so bad that I couldn't bare to keep the purple feathered hat any longer :?

okay, ive got a new system coming in the next few weeks, so for fun my old system will be going over to linux. i had some experience with FC4, but the machine i put that on just straight up died a few months ago (i dont blame FC, should I? seemed like a power supply problem, but just 2 weeks after installing FC4). so, what distro should i put on my old machine now, so that I can play quake, have some fun, learn a bit, but not too too much? recommendations?

With FC4 I had to do some configging and ask some questions to get wireless working. Ubuntu set up wireless right away. FC4 has a lousy packing system. Ubuntu has a better packaging system. I say go Ubuntu or Gentoo

So I heard QuakeMarine beat you at quake the other day. Sucks to be you :lol:
