Joszef,

Here is an installer for 0.14DEV based on the specifications we kinda were talking about. (And I got it to do everything I wanted :D )

Image

I thoroughly tested this installer, but could use some volunteers checking it out just to be double sure.

Download: JoeQuake 0.14DEV EZ Installer 1.7 MB (thanks Mindzfield!, heh)

This installer contains a pak0.pak modified by Yellow No. 5 ...

List of Modifications by Yellow No. 5 wrote:
This installer uses the standard pak0.pak supplied in Jozsef's zip with the following variations:
1. quake.rc executes the normal demos
2. those demos are in the pak file
3. the standard default.cfg from id1\pak0.pak is in the pak0.pak
.... 3a. except that defective F11 zoom has been eliminated (F11 now = Help)
.... 3b. Added cfg_savevars 1 (exit JoeQuake and changes are saved)

The installer will ask if you want all particles turned on by default and transparent water (r_novis 1) and suggests that if your computer is capable of running most new release games (new computer, good graphics card, etc.) to say YES, otherwise say NO and those features can be turned on later if they are wanted.

If you say YES ...

Your config.cfg will be

It also puts a one-line autoexec.cfg that binds F11 to connect to a server.

This particular installer is particularly designed for a first time JoeQuake user. It will overwrite your existing joequake/config.cfg so you are testing it and your config is fancy, you may wish to rename it before using this installer.

Why? Because this installer assumes that if you are reinstalling, you want everything the way it is fresh out of the installer and remember, this is targeted towards first time users.

And Joszef, I'll customize it however you wish if you want and that private message I sent contains a link to the full project file and the name of the installer I used, so you can make your own if you wish.

On a funnier note, I had to write some Pascal to make this installer do everything desired. I never knew I knew Pascal :shock: :shock: < I don't, hehe ... that was intimidating at first.

(After doing a lot of Google homework and newsgroups reading and spending 7 hours on it, I got 'er done, though).

Check it out!

Installer has been updated and the following features:

1. +MLOOK has been moved in autoexec.cfg, doesn't seem to preserve in config.cfg after first section.

2. Resolved: Diazoild noticed that the desktop/quick launch icons produced a GFX.WAD not found type of error; now the working directory is set in those icons.

3. Existing config.cfg and autoexec.cfg are backed up!

4. If a user tries to install JoeQuake to a folder that does not contain Quake, the installation informs the user of this and asks them if they really want to proceed.

The above download location has been updated with this new version.

Going to add an appid tonight, which will cause several installers I have built to by default use the same folder as the others if any other have been used. Will be helpful because I plan on making several EZ installers for Quake.

Added.

To do: Make it prompt whether to backup existing config.cfg/autoexec.cfg or leave them as is.

The installer is working fine, but it's installed only the WIN-joequake, the GL version is missing!

Updated, it should be resolved.

The code in the prior installer was only installing GL if you had selected to create a desktop icon or a quick launch icon, so if neither were checked it didn't install them. This wasn't what I had intended, of course. :shock:

Thanks for the heads up. Give it a try now :)

It's perfect now! :D

Are you using Inno Setup 5 to make the installers? If this is the case, are you interested in add support to Brazilian Portuguese language?

I can send you the files and the script changes needed.

Soon, my friend, soon. I wish I didn't have to work so much, heheheh.

Could I get translations for a couple of extra blocks of text in the JoeQuake installer ... the template changes won't affect custom code:

1. "Error: Quake not detected in selected folder. Would you like to select a different folder?'

'The folder you selected does not appear to contain Quake. This install should be installed to your existing Quake folder.'

'Do you want to select a different folder?'

'Pressing No will proceed with the folder as entered.'

2. Particle Effects and Transparent Water:'

'Would you like full particle effects and transparent water turned on?'

'If you have a newer computer, a Radeon or GeForce graphics card or otherwise have a computer that can comfortably run most new release games ANSWER YES. If unsure, ANSWER NO.'

'These effects can be turned on (or off) manually in Video Options even if you select NO.'

It will have Brazilian Portugeuse support no later than Sunday, July 10. I will also convert some other installers on that day as well.

Download: JoeQuake Brazilian Portuguese Installer (1.6 MB)

At some point the English and Brazilian Portuguese versions will be combined, but I need to do some experiments and make some non-language related adjustments to the installer.

Let me know if this needs any changes or if any mistakes were made.

Btw, I made the freequake.quakeone.com page auto-detect pt-br in the list of accepted languages using the following PHP code and load the appropriate page.

All the downloads on that page are in Brazilian Portuguese (untested). Quake shareware / ProQuake / JoeQuake

Code:
<?php
if(strstr($HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE,"pt-br")) {
Header("Location: http://www.quakeone.com/freequake/br.html");
}
else {Header("Location: http://www.quakeone.com/freequake/en.html");
}
?>

Additionally, the 9.08 megabyte texture pack mentioned in another thread has been converted:

Download: Yellow No. 5 Texture Pack - Sub 10 MB Version - Brazilian Portuguese (9.08 MB)

I don't have that as an optional download on the freequake page as Yellow noticed 2 to 4 missing DM3 textures in his master set plus a luma channel issue with a couple of textures. Although that doesn't really affect game play and most people wouldn't even notice it, we want to get that fixed in the near future.

Ok tomorrow (I'm not sure), I'll write a little article about your work, include a banner and probably a link in the partners area of http://www.quakebrasil.com.

Thank you for the help and good will! :D
